The state visit of the President of Portugal, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, to Estonia on 8–10 October has been postponed at the request of Portugal.

All University of Tartu students are welcome to join us and focus on mental health together! We here at the Student Union want to contribute to students' mental well-being.

The competition will be held on Wednesday, 2 October at 10:00 in the Conference Hall of the University of Tartu Library.

The big telescope in Tõravere celebrates its 50th birthday! We invite everyone to the telescope parade on 12 October at the Tartu Observatory.

On 20 November, the University of Tartu Library hosted a conference focusing on the particulars of interdisciplinary and cross-disciplinary cooperation.

The concert “180 years from Clara Schumann’s concerts in Tartu”, which will take place on 11 October at 18:00 in the university assembly hall.

At the University of Tartu, the weaving of camouflage nets and the making of helmet covers for the Ukrainian armed forces continues.

As part of Tartu Mobility Week, all students, university staff and cycling enthusiasts are invited to join a bike ride on 16 September at 18:00 to get to know the most convenient cycling route between the Maarjamõisa study buildings, Vanemuise 46, and the Delta study building.

We invite all students to the fair where scientists and research groups from the Geography Department introduce their work, projects, and potential thesis topics.

Until 31 October, nominations can be submitted for the “Contribution to Estonian National Identity” award.

Nominations can be submitted via the web form until 20 September.

The mentoring programme will be held again this autumn semester, welcoming students, alumni and university staff to apply until 23 September.

The registration for three-minute thesis competition ends on 19 September.

Starting from 16 August, all staff and students of the university will be able to test the virtual assistant on the University of Tartu IT wiki page, which will provide support in solving IT problems based on existing guides. The trial period will last a couple of months, during which the Information Technology Office will be able to assess the quality of the virtual assistant service.

Opening of the academic year 2024/25 in the Department of Geography will take place on September 2 at 14.00.

The opening ceremony of the 2024/2025 academic year of the University of Tartu takes place on Monday, 2 September at 10:00 in front of the university's main building.

The updated virtual tour of the University of Tartu at virtualtour.ut.ee/en enables everyone interested to get to know the university’s learning and research environment already before arriving there. In addition, the tour gives an overview of bicycle parking and accessibility at the university buildings.

On 28 August Reti Ranniku will defend her doctoral thesis "Impact of environmental conditions and soil microbiome on greenhouse gas fluxes from soil and tree stems in hemiboreal drained peatland forest".

The international geoinformatics conference “Free and Open Source for Geospatial (FOSS4G) Europe 2024” will take place in Tartu, Estonia, from 1 to 7 July.
